Custody Evaluation

Custody evaluations involve a comparison of two or more adults and their children.  The goal of the custody evaluation is to determine the best interests of the minor children.  Custody evaluations have to take in to consideration the best interest factors determined by statute and adapt psychological data or other data available to the examiner to the specific best interest factors.

Dr. Kitchen understands the importance of a comprehensive custody evaluation.  Understanding the need to utilize multiple data points in making decisions is critical. Typical data points include, but are not limited to: (1) interviews with all adult parties; (2) psychological testing (Rorschach, PAI, PCRI, PSI, and others that are necessary); (3) interviews and psychological testing of children as needed or appropriate; (4) evaluating the home/residence for its appropriateness; (5) record review or discovery material review; and (6) interviews or information from collateral sources.

Dr. Kitchen understands the magnitude of expert testimony and how hearsay evidence is somewhat different for expert witnesses.  As a result, every effort will be utilized to verify all hearsay evidence by as many sources as possible in order to address hearsay issues.

Dr. Kitchen is thoroughly knowledgeable of the legal issues pertinent to custody evaluations.  These include an awareness of the best interest factors determined by statute, as well as evidentiary standards required by the law.

Dr. Kitchen incorporates relevant research data in order to support his conclusions.  His reports are readable, and conclusions and analyses are clearly delineated.
